The transformation of Warrnambool’s city centre into a 2.5 acre fun factory is almost at the half-way mark.
The massive makeover requires deliveries on 2 B-Doubles trucks weighing 58 tonnes each, carrying 4,163 sq/m of marquees, over 3,700 sqm of flooring, 15,000 cable ties and hundreds of metres of temporary fencing and fence wrap.
The construction crew of 30 will consume more than 1,000 Sungold FM milks, 3,000 cups of coffee and 450 sausage rolls over the month they spend on site constructing and packing up Australia’s best Children’s festival.
Fun4Kids site and logistics manager Luke Cann said construction of the festival venue was a massive job, requiring precision and patience.
“We bring in the walls, floors, ceilings and the stages and build them around existing buildings like the Regal Café, Pins’n’Play, Indoor Bowl and Art Gallery – it is a massive logistical exercise,” Mr Cann said.
“We do our very best to minimise disruption to business and the public, but there will be some temporary pain for a massive gain.”
“The festival generates more than $2.4 million for our city, so it is worth the inconvenience for a few weeks.”
Liebig Street, from Smith Ave to Timor Street, will be closed until 5pm on July 14.
The festival fun kicks off on June 27 and runs until July 4.
Don’t miss festival first timers Bob the Builder, Jay Laga’aia (of Playschool and Home & Away Fame), The WotWots, and stars of Yo Gabba Gabba.
For bigger kids there will be incredible new acts this year including The P!NK Tribute show, Questacon’s Sensational Science Show, International Mini Bike Stunt Team and amazing circus stunts from Dislocate.
Ticket can be purchased online at www.fun4kids.com.au , at the Entertainment centre box office in Timor St or by calling the festival hotline on 55624044.
